Brett Myers- Director of Bands- Mr. Myers joined as Director of Bands in May 2012 after serving as the Director of the Hillsboro Band Program and the Director at Hamilton, Illinois and Cambridge, Illinois respectively. During his tenure with the Jay Band, Mr. Myers has lead the Symphonic Band to "Superior" Ratings at MSHSAA Large Festival every year and a 2016 Performance at the Missouri Music Educators Association Conference.  The Marching Jay Band keeps a highly competitive respect amoung the state of Missouri having numerous success at both local and Bands of America Regional Competitions.

While with the Hillsboro Band Program he had responsibilities as: Director of the Marching Hawks, High School Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band and Eighth Grade Band. Mr. Myers’ was also Director of the 2009 and 2010 MCCGA Regional “A” Champion Hillsboro Indoor Winter Percussion Unit.

He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Culver Stockton College in 1999 and his Master’s Degree from Western Illinois University in 2004. While at Western Illinois, Mr. Myers served as Graduate Assistant of University Bands including the Marching Leathernecks and the Western Illinois University Wind Ensemble.

Kevin Pierce- Associate Director of Bands/Director of Percussion-

Mr. Pierce took over as Director of Percussion in 2017 after joining the Jay Band Staff in 2012 as Assistant Director of Bands and Head Director at Thomas Jefferson Middle School.

He keeps a full schedule as a clinician, adjudicator, teacher, and performer in the Mid-Missouri area. Kevin earned his Masters degree in percussion performance at the University of Central Arkansas, studying with Dr. Blake Tyson. He received his Bachelors degree from Ouachita University, studying with Mr. Bruce Salyers.

In 2005, Kevin performed as a member of the National Wind Ensemble in Carnegie Hall, under the baton of world-renown conductor H. Robert Reynolds.  He has been involved in commissioning/premiering works from composers such as Sgt. Steve Owen, Dr. Blake Tyson, Michael Reed, Stephanie Berg, and Dr. David Gillingham.

He is also an active composer. Numerous schools throughout Arkansas and Missouri perform his marching percussion music. He has also written music to accompany films from the studios of “Psycho Productions” and “Blubird Pictures.” Kevin is a member of the Percussive Arts Society and the National Association for Music Education.

Stewart Alloway- Associate Director of Bands/Brass Caption Head- Joined the Jay Band staff in May 2013 as the band director for Lewis & Clark Middle School and an Assistant Director for the Marching and Concert Bands at Jefferson City High School.

He received his B.M.E from The University of Kansas in May 2012. During his time at KU, Mr. Alloway was a member of the Marching Jayhawks, Men’s Basketball Band, KU Wind Ensemble, KU Symphony Orchestra, and the KU Horn Ensemble. He also marched the 2008 and 2009 seasons with the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps from Rosemont, Illinois. Currently, Mr. Alloway is a Summer Graduate Student at the University of Central Missouri, working toward a Master's Degree in Instrumental Conducting.

 

Before joining the Jay Band staff, Mr. Alloway was the Brass Coordinator for Olathe East High School in Olathe, KS. He was also a staff member for the Bands of America Super Regional Finalist Blue Valley High School in Stilwell, KS.

Mr. Alloway is a member of KMEA, NAfME, MMEA, and Alpha Kappa Lambda Alumni Association. He would like to thank Jeff Smikahl, David Clemmer, Avian Bear, David Bertman, Donnie Hull, Paul Popiel, and Dr. Paul Stevens for their tremendous support and dedication to music education and music performance.

Mona Scott- Color Guard Director- Mona earned a BS in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from the University of Missouri in 1990. While at MU she was a member of the Marching Mizzou Color Guard for 4 years.

 

During that time she choreographed routines for several small schools in the Mid-Missouri area. From 1991-1995 Mona became the Colorguard director for Marching Mizzou.  She was colorguard director for the Marching Jay Band from 1997-2002.  After taking time to be with her family, Mona returned to direct the Jay Band Colorguard in 2015.

Richard Williams- Percussion Coach- Mr. Williams is a 1983 graduate of Jefferson City High School, where he began his musical career. He continued his study of percussion at Lincoln University and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education in 1989. Mr. Williams taught several years as a head band director in New Mexico, Texas, and Missouri.

Mr. Williams main expertise is with marching percussion. Which has continued for the last 30 years. During that time he has taught middle schools, high schools, and college/universities drumlines in 20 states. Mr. Williams is an alumnus of the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps from Rosemont, IL, and was an instructor/arranger with the Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps from Casper, WY and the Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corps from Denver, CO.

Mr. Williams is excited to be back teaching in his hometown of Jefferson City.
